The $MPW Saga Continues: Steward’s Shocking Attacks Against Critics
In a truly shocking development, a Boston Globe, Times of Malta and OCCRP joint investigation revealed that U.S. healthcare operator Steward, “paid over $7 million to U.K.-based intelligence firms that conducted surveillance and disinformation operations against its critics - and even a Steward employee.”
Steward directed these intelligence firms to target critics of the company’s landlord, the publicly traded Medical Properties Trust (MPW). Hedgeye and financial research group Viceroy Research were among those targeted.
The big question: Why is MPW’s tenant, Steward, funding attacks against MPW’s critics?
Our REITs analyst Rob Simone reviewed the shocking evidence this morning on The Call @ Hedgeye. Rob has worked extensively on uncovering MPW’s highly questionable business practices. The questions Rob has been asking for years about MPW’s practices (and that of Steward) have now escalated to the highest levels of government.
“MPT has - along with Steward - plundered these hospitals,” wrote United States Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) in a joint statement on April 16, 2024. “[T]hese investments have all the appearances of a Ponzi scheme that is continuing to harm Steward-owned hospitals.”
The Senators continued, “MPT continued to provide capital to Steward, which allowed the hospital system to continue paying rent to MPT,” the senators wrote. “This allowed MPT to avoid devaluing its real estate purchases and the leases that it held, bolster its stock price, and report lucrative cash flows.”
The latest findings by the Boston Globe, Times of Malta and OCCRP merely escalate an already toxic and heartbreaking situation for the American healthcare system. “The appropriate authorities have to get involved here because, again, it’s what should be a safety net hospital company… running spies around the world to follow, snoop on, and harass dissenters. I would just ask why,” said Simone.

I work as a driver for FedEx Ground. I can tell you that the cost saving measures are a short term paper gain for the company. Us contractors are getting squeezed and it'll probably be an issue when the next contract rolls around. They have offered us less money in the past three years. And soon, we won't be able to afford to operate and still get good drivers. Also, I'm pretty sure FedEx is doing things that are a breech of the contract because they pay us by the stop and they've been combining stops that were previously separated and should not be combined according to the contract. The difference between a stop and an additional package on a stop is something like 80% price spread too, so imagine how expensive that lawsuit will be if they're actually held accountable for it. They've gotten away with stuff for the time being, but it should catch up with them. I wouldn't be surprised if you see a historic class action lawsuit from the contractor's nationwide based on what they've been doing to try and cut costs. Also, package counts are stagnant. And that's after we've already absorbed some of the Express packages. Package density is down by 1/3 to a 1/2 and the consumer is definitely buying less. I'm in the Seattle area too, which is affluent, but the tech layoffs and surging rents are really cutting into people's ability to buy stuff. Not to mention the high prices because of the inflation of the money supply that should only continue to get worse now that we're in fiscal dominance. The cheap bread at the cheapest grocery store in the suburb that I live in has gone from 0.89 to 1.29 in a year and half. So imagine how much the rest of groceries have gone up. It's something like 40%-60% for most things, and certain consumables that they know people will keep buying have gone up more (go look at deodorant prices). As for the "lowering" of prices by Walgreens et all, they're only doing that because they raised their prices even more than other places and now they are losing stock of product that expires, and have growing inventories. This is the second upswing of the bullwhip effect guys. You gotta know we'll see prices disinflate a little so inventories can be economized. Then certain products will be kept at very low levels and their price will inch up because there's less of that product for people to buy. It's basic supply and demand. We're just waiting for the waves to ripple again and even out at the new higher level. Except women's clothing for online sales (I can't speak for actual brick and mortar stores). I deliver a lot of Abercrombie and Fitch. So that stock will probably stay stronger for longer. It may sound sexist, but in my experience with what I deliver, women have less self control and are worse overall with curbing their extra spending. So you're probably ok to leave some money in the popular cosmetics like Sephora (I deliver that a fair amount too). If you guys want someone on the ground to give you reports, I'd be happy to be a data source for you if you could pay me a little bit of money. I could use the extra income. My wages have been lowered every year for the past 3 years because FedEx pays our company less. And I don't know if they'll even be able to keep me after this year. What I am curious to know is if they have gotten out over their skis with debt, or whether they are possibly planning for a sale or merger with a retailer like Ali Baba (the CEO met with President Xi in the past couple years around the time FedEx started announcing they were cutting costs), or an American giant like Walmart, Target, or Costco would make sense to me too (as well already deliver things for all those companies, with Walmart being the heaviest customer of the three). Maybe have Cahodes do some sniffing around cuz something definitely doesn't smell right at FedEx. They may see a little more upside of their stock while they continue to strangle us contractors, but eventually it will come to a head. And then I think it's gonna get pretty ugly for them. But will they do their $5 Billion in stocks buyback first? Will the CEO get his incentive pay and stock options from all their disingenuous "cost savings" before things fall apart? I definitely wouldn't be surprised if he did. Anyway, I love your channel and am really big into Austrian Economics. I follow a lot of finance stuff, but I'm no where near trained in it. I did read The Misbehaviors of Markets based on Keith's suggestion and it was fascinating. I think one of your guests also suggested The Price of Time and I listened to that audiobook too. I listen to so much finance stuff while I work my delivery job, I think I have a fair understanding of the different theses that people have. Gundlach's latest video presentation on the similarities between today and 1968 was really good if you haven't seen it yet.

People dont understand that the prices of things are never going back down. This inflation is deeper than we think. Those buying groceries are well aware that the real inflation is much over 10%. The increments dont match our income, yet certain investors still earn over $365,000 in stocks and assets. Wish I could accomplish that.

White Paper: Ethical and Moral Adoption of Bitcoin by the U.S. Government Introduction: The U.S. government has a moral obligation to uphold transparency, accountability, and efficiency in its financial operations. Bitcoin, as a decentralized digital currency, presents an opportunity to enhance these values. This paper outlines the ethical imperatives for the U.S. government to adopt Bitcoin and proposes a framework for setting up Bitcoin wallets to enable public monitoring of government budgeting. I. Ethical Imperatives for Adopting Bitcoin: 1. Transparency: - Traditional fiat systems lack transparency, leading to public distrust. Bitcoin's blockchain provides transparent, immutable records of financial transactions. 2. Accountability: - Government financial operations are often opaque, hindering accountability. Bitcoin's transparent ledger system ensures traceability and verifiability, deterring corruption. 3. Efficiency: - Traditional banking systems are slow and costly. Bitcoin transactions are faster and more cost-effective, streamlining government financial operations. 4. Financial Inclusion: - Bitcoin offers an inclusive financial system accessible to all citizens, addressing the challenges faced by the unbanked or underbanked. II. Framework for Setting Up Government Bitcoin Wallets: To ensure ethical adoption, the government should establish a framework for managing Bitcoin wallets: - Government Department Wallets: Multi-signature wallets for departmental spending. - Public Budget Wallet: Central wallet for government revenue with public monitoring. - Citizen Feedback System: Platform for citizens to report concerns. - Educational Resources: Public access to educational materials on Bitcoin monitoring. III. Conclusion: Adopting Bitcoin aligns with the government's moral responsibility to uphold transparency and accountability. By implementing a comprehensive framework for managing Bitcoin wallets, the government can enhance public trust and demonstrate a commitment to responsible fiscal management.

Hello Guys, I can't hold a candle to Jim Rickerts knowledge of markets and his knowledge and use of quantitative analysis. But, my layman's understanding of Wall Streets thirst for rate cuts is that it sparks borrowing by a lot of ordinary people. For example mortgages, small business formation and expansion. In other words, Wall Street needs main street flush with cash so the wealth transfer effect can take place. There aren't enough rich people to strictly sell to each other and pump up balance sheets. They need 'consumption', and most of that profit making consumption takes place at the bottom 95% of society. An obvious simplification of the situation which does not take mid and large cap borrowing into account. But hopefully you get my point. Rich guys need poor guys to milk (let's call it 'the quants' vs. the 'non-quants'). And those poor guys have nothing to milk without borrowing - it's a circle. And when the music stops (recession), poor guys lose the assets they borrowed against, taken back to the same rich guys, and we start the same dance again. It's the American way. If you are in the bottom 90%, you will own nothing and be happy...

The 700 economists work for a fed president not a fed governor. More importantly the are paid by that fed president. What they present in their analysis is just a reflection of the views of the person paying their salary. Welcome to corporate America. LOL
